MAKU
Kaupapa - Context
Robbie Ratana of Ngai Tahu, was the lead vocalist of the Maori Volcanics in the mid 1970s. He wrote Maku e Mihi in the last years of his life. It is an appropriate song to sing at most gatherings as an expression of gratitude.

Maku e mihi atu
Kia koutou te iwi Maori
No reira, tenei te mihi
Kia koutou, kia ora ra
Ka tangi te manu tioriori
Ka tangi te ngakau tangata
No reira, tenei te mihi
Kia koutou, kia ora ra.

My applause  goes
To you Maori people
And so this is my wish
"May you have a healthy Joyful life"

The birds sweet crying is as
The heart of the people cries
And so this is my wish
"May you have a healthy joyful life"
