RONA
Kaupapa - Context Maori oral traditions articulates that "Rona" is the woman on the moon. She became trapped there when she, one night swore at the moon, for disappearing behind a cloud. This waiata can be sung at powhiri but is more often sung by children.
Takoto ana au
I te moenga hurihuri
Tu ake au
Titiro ki te atarau
Kei runga ra
Te marama e whiti ana
Tera Rona
Kei roto ra
Piri ki te taha
Piri ki te ngaio Aue ra...e
Rona e
Aue Rona e
I'm lying
In my bed
And after a while get up
To look at the moonlight
It's up there
The bright moon
And there's Rona
In the middle
